Interprofessional Spiritual Care Training
Working with colleagues Sara Paasche-Orlow and Mary Martha Thiel at Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL), we transitioned the spiritual care generalist workshop developed by the Boston Children’s Hospital’s Institute for Professionalism & Ethical Practice (IPEP) for geriatrics practitioners. We developed the materials required to train “spiritual generalists” for geriatric caregivers and trained 75 caregivers in an interprofessional setting. These caregivers are now poised to deliver care to the more than 3,000 seniors receiving long-term care at HSL. Read an interview with Mary Martha Thiel here. And overview of this effort is described in this Brandeis NOW article. We then partnered with Carol Damm to transition this training from in-person delivery to a mixed in-person, online approach that can be shared and used by colleagues across the country. This effort is described in more detail on the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab’s website.
This project is supported by grants from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation and the Lovell Foundation.
